DREAMS AND THEIR MEANING
The Bible speaks of dreams as being sometimes prophetic, or suggestiveof future events.
The belief that dreams can be used to predict the future has prevailed in all ages and countries, and there are
numerous modern examples, apparently authenticated, which would appear
to favor this hypothesis.
The interpretation of dreams was a part of the business of the soothsayers at the royal courts of Egypt, Babylon and other ancient nations.
Dreams and visions have attracted the attention of mankind of every age and nation. It has been claimed throughout history that dreams are spiritual revelations to humankind; so much so, that their many religions and modes of worship have been founded upon the interpretation of dreams and visions.
Almost everyone dreams, but few of us can remember our dream for long after we awaken. It is a characteristic of dream logic that things may make perfect sense in a dream yet be incomprehensible or outlandish when we look back on the dream after we awaken. It is a good idea to keep a journal and write down the main symbols and the plot of your dream.
Dreams are a uniquely personal experience and something that may have a symbolic meaning to you may have a completely different meaning to someone else. For that reason, a dream dictionary that purports to tell you what the symbols in your dream stand for must always be approached with caution; similarly a group of different dream symbols or objects may have different meanings when in the same dream, than if they appeared in different combinations.
Can dreams be used to predict the future? Do the symbols in dreams mean something? Or are they just random imagery?
In my opinion, dreams can be all those things. Sometimes dreams are just entertainment for the unconscious mind? Or they may be an expression of a worry about missing a deadline at work.
Whatever they are, dreams are communication between your sleeping consciousness and your waking self. They afford an opportunity for you to communicate with a part of yourself that you cannot know directly. As such dreams are always important, though not necessarily accurate. For example, if you dream that your wife or husband is cheating on you, does that mean that they are? It is possible that your dream mind is trying to tell you something and interpret clues about your spouse cheating that your conscious mind has not noticed. Or it may be that your dream simply expresses your feelings of insecurity about the relationship. Either way, you should pay attention. See also: "What Are Dreams?" and "sleep Walking".
Dream Interpretation
Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, said that when the body is asleep the soul is awake, andtransports itself everywhere the body would be able to go; knows andsees all that the body could see or know were it awake; that it touchesall that the body could touch. In a word, it performs all the actionsthat the body of a sleeping man could do were he awake.
A dream, to have a significance, must occur to the sleeper while inhealthy and tranquil sleep. Those dreams of which we have not a vividconception, or clear remembrance, have no significance.
Those of which we have a clear remembrance must have formed in the mindin the latter part of the night, for up to that time the faculties ofthe body have been employed in digesting the events of the day.
Below is a dream dictionary which sets out traditional popular interpretations for certain dream symbols. Do not assume that simply because these are the traditional interpretations of what such a dream means, that it is the right interpretation for your dream. Use these definitions as a guide only: do they sound right? If not, what is wrong with the definition? Your understanding of the meaning of the dream may grow by your rejection of the proposed interpretation, more so than if you simply accept the definitions below.
Finally, please note that the dream interpretations and meanings on this site are derived from traditional sources but that does not mean that are accurate. Remember that our forefathers thought that the sun revolved around the earth and that blood-letting was a good cure for anemia and the common cold. In other words: this dream dictionary and every individual dream definition on this site are presented as is for entertainment purposes only and without any express or implied that they are in any way accurate. In fact, they are most likely inaccurate. You should not base your decision or take any action based on any dream dictionary, especially not this one.
